Spread the love

I look forward to fall every year. It’s not because I like the fact that the weather’s getting colder but it’s the time when the new Fall/Winter looks start popping up. I may not be a fan of the chillier colder weather but I do love fall/winter clothes. Plus I like to see the new fall trends for men.

Every year fashion magazines gear up for their September issue. It’s typically one of the larger editions for these publications. And it’s not just the women’s mags. Not only did GQ have it’s regular September edition but it also published a GQ Style edition as well. Now that we’re in November and the weather has finally begun changing, it’s time to bring to life some of the looks that have been so carefully styled in the pages.

I want to caution you however as we look at some of the fall trends for men. Consider what you have in your closet before rushing out to make new purchases each season. I like to think my wardrobe consists of pieces that will look great from year to year. That way I only need to add a few new pieces each season to keep my look fresh and up to date. Plus I may be on trend with what I already have in my closet. As I see it, here are three new fall trends for men for 2017.

Trend 1 Color: Tawny Port

Every season, the Pantone Color Institute provides a color template of the top 10 colors used by designers in their seasonal fashion shows. As the weather gets cooler we normally expect to see darker colors reminiscent of the changing fall leaves and this season is no different. One of the colors touted was tawny port, a dark burgundy color.

For this year I’m rocking the color as a blazer and in the plaid of my trousers. Other ways to incorporate the color:

  • A tie and/or pocket square in tawny port worn with a grey or charcoal suit
  • A pattern shirt or solid colored shirt in tawny port worn with jeans
  • Full suit in tawny port for a bold statement look

Trend 2 Print: Plaid

I’ve hit two of this season’s trends with my pants: first with the color and also with the striking plaid. A great plaid print is one of the most have fall trends for men. I actually picked up my pants a couple of seasons ago. Who knew I was so ahead of the curve? However I’ve chosen some other options to consider if you are in the market for plaid pants.

I’m wearing mine with a blazer but they would also go well with a sweater. Consider a thin knit turtleneck or crewneck sweater. If you go this route.

Trend 3 Shoe: Lace-up boot

As soon as the weather gets colder I like to go with a stylish boot. The Chelsea boot is always a perennial favorite but a great rugged lace-up is another option that is right on trend for the season. Although they are not as dressy as the Chelsea they still offer a great deal of versatility. They’d look terrific with a pair of jeans but you can see they also are working nicely with my plaid pants.

I have to admit that I picked up my boots a couple of years ago. A good quality boot should be able to take you through several seasons and last for years. Again this is why I say go through your closet first before making seasonal purchases. If you already have some of the fall’s must haves in your closet, you can then focus on those things you don’t have.Try to buy higher quality pieces so they will last over several seasons. Still in the market for new boots? Here are a few of my favorites .

Pro shopping tip:

I like Armani for dress shirts but at full price they can range upwards of $295. I tend to pick up mine at Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth for a fraction of the cost. Bonus: Look out for sale days!

Great Blog Man. Totally agree about having a closet with a great foundation. So that you only have to add a few pieces here and there. That is the key. I may need to grab a pair of those pants though; I’m a fan of the plaid.

For some reason I’ve been all about plaid lately.
