Brunch in the Yard

One of the things we Washingtonians like to do is find a great brunch. On most Sundays and some Saturdays, there’s nothing better than grabbing a bunch of friends, enjoying a great meal and enjoying some bottomless drinks for a few hours. That’s why I was honored to have brunch in the Yard at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown.

The Ritz is one of those hidden gems nestled in the heart of historic Georgetown and they’ve recently added a beautiful outdoor urban retreat. The Yard is the Ritz’ new outdoor space and an ideal setting for dining al fresco. My occasion was a Social Brunch put together to showcase the new space to some of DC’s most stylish influencers.

Naturally knowing the fashionable ladies that would be in attendance, I had to make sure I brought my A game. This would be vital if I was going to be able to hold court with the city’s top fashionistas. Since the brunch in the yard was a somewhat dressy affair, that meant wearing a jacket and tie.

Washington can be hot in the summer so I have a couple of tips on staying cool especially in a suit or jacket and tie. First, wear an undershirt under a dress shirt. This may sound counter intuitive by wearing additional layers however a cotton undershirt can actually help you stay a little cooler as the temperature rises. Another benefit is if you do get a little sweaty, it will help absorb your moisture.

In choosing a blazer, my second tip would be to look for an unconstructed blazer in linen or cotton. An unconstructed blazer does not have a lining and typically forgoes the extra padding that you find it regular blazers. It’s a great way to stay stylish and perfect for elevating a casual look.

If you read my last post about the Top of the Gate, you know I’ve become a fan of Thomas Pink and that’s where I found this great cotton blazer. I paired it with cotton off-white trousers and a mini-checked tonal blue tie. A great summer look to brunch in the Yard.

Brunch in the Yard Menu

You might ask how was the brunch? It was delicious. For $45, you can chose a starter and main course plus you get either unlimited mimosas or make your own Bloody Marys. With a selection of breakfast items to more lunch fare you will definitely not leave hungry. My advice is to make a beeline for the S’mores French Toast (think a s’more using French toast instead of those tiny graham crackers.) It’s wickedly good.  For a few dollars more there’s even dessert! Check out the slide show to see some of the delicacies.

The Ritz Carlton Georgetown is located at 3100 South Street NW, Washington, DC 20007. In addition to brunch, the Yard will be a great new spot to gather with friends, sip craft cocktails, and eat delectable seasonal cuisine. I’ll be there!
