Washington gets hot in the summer and you should always have a good pool party look. The 3 H’s (hazy, hot and humid) dominate the weather forecasts so when a chance comes up for a pool party, I’m jumping at the opportunity. Just recently, a good friend hosted an impromptu party and there was no way I was not going to take advantage of his hospitality. Finding a great swimsuit was easy, I have quite a few but I needed a great summer look to wear outside of the pool.
Several months ago I was contacted by a new jeans brand to learn more about their premium denim and essentials line. The DSTLD jeans line is the brainchild of co-founders, Corey Epstein and Mark Lynn who wanted to provide high quality clothing at accessible prices. Their direct to consumer strategy along the lines of Jack Erwin or Warby Parker helps to keep the cost down but quality high.
DSTLD’s story sounded fascinating and the pictures of the clothes looked great so I was eager to try some of the styles for myself. The company provided me with a couple of looks and I knew that their cigarette shorts would be an ideal look for a pool party. I’m a fan of a slimmer line for jeans and shorts but as a cycling instructor with larger thighs, I was concerned that the jeans and shorts wouldn’t work for me but I went ahead and selected my normal size.
DSTLD boasts a unique bodymapping sizing approach and their clothes fit me perfectly. The cigarette shorts have a nice slim modern cut with a bit of stretch to them. Not only did they look great, they had some give in the fit and they were quite comfortable. Not surprisingly, these shorts have quickly become one of my go to pairs for the summer.
Statement t-shirts are a great look this season and I’m a fan of retro logos or unique prints. For my pool party look, I paired my stone colored shorts with a blue t-shirt with a sporty tangerine star patch from Spahr Clothing. This trendy boutique in Rehoboth, Delaware offers handcrafted clothing and accessories produced in limited quantities. Finishing with a pair of Kino rope sandals, I’d say, “Mission accomplished,” for my quest for the perfect summer look. Look out for my other looks from DSTLD coming soon.
