Louis Vuitton Chevy Chase: Nice Fall Surprise.

The other day I popped into Louis Vuitton for a quick visit.  It was just a service visit. Someone tried to break into my Keepall 55 and broke the lock. I was simply there to get it fixed. Service was incredible and they offered to simply replace my lock no questions asked.

As I waited for my replacement, I happened to saunter over to the men’s shoes section. Wow was I impressed! The line for fall is beautiful. Dress shoes are exquisitely done. If the LV logo is present it’s not overdone often just a hint on with a small emblem on the heel. However, the standouts for this year are the boots. Inspired by hiking boots, they are far too nice for a hike but would be an elegant way to brave the elements.

In addition to the boots, the new Neo Eole bag was also a hit.  This new rolling duffle was recently released using the Monogram canvas and is available in two sizes.  The smaller size would be perfect for a weekend getaway and the larger would be great for a week long junket. Check out the Neo Eole review for more information.

Brand to Watch: Jack Erwin Shoes

For those who have a pension for shoes and if money was not an object, our closets would be filled with the likes of brands such as John Lobb, Gaziano and Girling and Crocket and Jones. We love Gucci, Prada and Ferragamo but oftentimes our budgets prevent us from having our wants satisfied. But what if one wants a good looking well-made shoe that is both affordable and can hold up to today’s current trends? Why not try Jack Erwin?

Founded in May of 2013 and launched in October of 2013, Jack Erwin has burst on to the scene with a collection of nicely constructed shoes at affordable prices. The brand was founded by Ariel Nelson and Lane Gerson to take on some of the high end names. What helps to set this brand apart is that the shoe’s uppers, the top portion of the shoe, are stitched to the soles which allows for longer wear and re-soling when the time comes.  Typically shoes around this price point have their uppers glued to the soles and do not wear as well.

Using the direct to consumer route, the company has come up with a nice line-up with looks that rival some of the top brands at about half the cost. The company’s philosophy is to forgo retailers and sell directly to consumer thereby providing a stylish shoe at a price that would normally sell for much more. With names like Archie, Jake, Ike and Ernie, these shoes seem more like a good buddy rather than simply nice kicks to cover your tootsies.

For such a relatively new company, the reviews have been positive with many raving that the brand is a cut above other shoes selling at the same price. The downsides? Production is in small batches so popular styles and sizes sell out quickly. However the company is happy to let you know when selections are back in stock and their line has even expanded for fall 2014. Also operating as an e-commerce business, purchasing is “buy it” before you “try it”. The company does have a showroom in New York City where you can actually try the shoes on if you are in the area.

The company’s current selection features three lines: the Sullivan collection, a hearty substantial upper paired with a thick Goodyear welted sole; the Foster collection, a lightweight upper paired with a thin flexible blake stitched sole and the Wright collection, soft suede drivers for the weekend warrior. The shoes are manufactured in Portugal and have a price point of around $200.  What’s especially nice is shipping as well as returns are free.

Tom Ford High Tops!

Over the past couple of years, there has been an explosion of designers creating high-end sneakers that are now dominating the floor space of upscale department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks and Nordstrom’s. No longer the strictly the domain of sporting good stores, these shoes are everywhere. The relatively new Buscemi (jonbuscemi.com) has seen a meteoric rise in a little over a year with the demand for his padlock high-tops ranging around $900. These shoes are becoming the it-shoe for men something akin to the Hèrmes Birkin it-bag for women. In Harlem, teenage entrepreneur, Chase Reed, has established Sneakerpawnusa.com, the world’s first sneaker pawnshop featuring current selections with prices as high as $1,400. Even Air Jordan has entered the market with its recent introduction of the Jordan Shine.

The forecast for this type of designer footwear remains high. According to Women’s Wear Daily, sneakers will continue to dominate the high-end trends through spring of 2015. So it’s no surprise that Tom Ford has entered the market with his exquisite selection of kicks. The shoes done in luxurious jewel tones with both suede and leather finishes are a great must have for this season. Top on the list are the midnight blue and red additions from the collection that definitely elevate the high top from its lowly gym shoe status.  Since they look fantastic worn casually or dressy, they are a perfect way to amp up this your fall fashion quotient.

The Saks Fifth Avenue Collection: Fall 2014

Not to be lost against venerable brands as Paul Smith, Boss, Burberry and Armani, the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Store in Chevy Chase has pulled out all the stops to present this year’s men’s Saks Fifth Avenue Collection. The line features sharp suits, along with a beautiful selection of shirts and tie that work well together for a complete sartorial look. I was particularly impressed with the plaid suit which is a must have for fall. This modern suit has a nice slim cut with tapered trousers and a jacket with narrower lapels.

Casual looks are just as fantastic. Luxurious sweaters in in this season’s hottest colors are sure to be a hit. The collection contains everything to take you from business to casual and have you maintain your best dressed status.  Now is the perfect time to stock up. Beginning Tuesday, September 9th, the Saks Fifth Avenue Collection is 30% off. Shop early for the pre-sale.  Don’t wait for the end of season sales, these looks will not last! Saks is located at 5300 Wisconsin Avenue, NW in Washington DC with another location in Tysons Galleria (2001 International Drive, McLean, Virginia).

The Looks from Diner en Blanc DC!

Now that Diner en Blanc DC is one for the history books, let’s look at what the attire from those that attended.  Yes it was after Labor Day but the lucky ones who scored a ticket to the event eagerly donned on their white and showcased their individual style. Here are looks from Diner en Blanc.

Polo shirt and khaki’s… prepster done in all white.  Notice the accessories… white watch as well as the white phone.

A sheer white shirt was a cool option since we’re still in the hot and hazy days of summer.  White sunglasses helped offered excellent protection from the glaring sun.
White shoes from Prada, Gucci and Cole-Hahn.
Hats were the key accessory for the night. Men and women sported a variety of looks, each with it’s own unique flair!

Sometimes the hat was too much and a simple ring of flowers was quite sufficient and elegant.
Other times a more substantial headpiece was the perfect showpiece.
And if the right hat was didn’t work for your ensemble?  A wig did just nicely!

Some men stepped up their game by adding ties, vest and beautiful arm candy.

And what better place to wear a white blazer?
Or the full on white suit!

However the ladies stole the show with their complete look from head to toe! Great looks from Diner en Blanc.
See ya next year!

DC’s Newest Shopping Mecca – CityCenter DC

Earlier this year, after years on Connecticut Avenue, Burberry quietly closed.  The company did not renew its lease and has since moved over to the new CityCenter DC shopping district. Joining the ranks of Allen Edmunds, Hugo Boss,  Kate Spade and Tumi, Burberry is helping the center of town become the latest must-do shopping destination. Also moving in is French luxury retailer, Zadig and Voltaire and Paul Stuart plans to open a 10,000 square foot store in the spring of next year. This will mark the company’s first US addition since 2012. In May of this year, Women’s Wear Daily reported that Hermes will also open a location in CityCenter DC.  Bounded by 9th, 11th and H Streets and New York Avenue, this new part of town is will be an excellent place for a little “retail therapy.” Washington’s cache for great shopping is definitely on the rise!
