Each year I’ve written about the annual Washingtonian Style Setter’s party. Whether it was either how to dress for the party or wanting to be considered a style setter, I’ve been talking about it for the last few years. In Dressing Like A Style Setter, I planned my look and shot my pictures in a $20 million dollar mansion done by Banks Development. Last year, in Thoughts On Being A Style Setter, I wrote about my style and the angst of secretly wanting to be a part of this elusive group.

This year I’m can now say I’m honored to be on the list! As someone who has lived in the Washington area most of my life, I grew up reading the Washingtonian. So for someone like me or who looks like me to make the list was really exciting. A new year meant new a new look for this Style Setter plus as an awardee I would be featured in the magazine.

For the shoot I wanted something different. I picked up my look at Stitched in MGM but you can get them online as well. I chose suit separates from Paisley and Gray – pants & blazer and paired it with a shirt from Mizzen and Main. The lapel flower is from Hook & Albert and shoes Jil Sander. The navy motorcycle umbrella is from the House of Domonique and available at the Great Republic.

But what does being a style setter really mean? According to the Washingtonian, I am “one of the nine most fashionable people in DC right now.” It’s true I love fashion. After all I am the DC Fashion Fool. And I did start my blog and establish a social media presence to prove that Washingtonians do have a sense of style. But lately I’m finding I want to be so much more.

I love showcasing what I’m wearing. It’s my hope that that I inspire some and educate others so that Washington can be known as arbiter of style just like some other regions in this county. But I realized I cannot do it alone. That’s why I’ve being trying to bring together the stylish men of this town. These “DC Dapper Dudes” each have their own personal style and it’s my desire that as a collective we can help Washington prove how stylish the men in DC truly are. So it is with these guys that I share my Washingtonian Style Setter honor.

But what’s the point of looking good if you have nowhere to show off incredible style? That’s where this magnificent town comes in. The growth in DC over the last few years has been outstanding. DC is no longer known for just politics, although these days it’s hard to get away from this fact. The city has world class dining, professional sports teams covering all the major sports, top notch housing and a host of not to be missed events that rival and even surpass other urban cities. As the “Man about DC”, I want to show off this city that I love so much. So this Style Setter will continue to show of his style while giving you the best of Washington, DC.

For the actual party, I did not want to wear what was featured in the magazine. However, I don’t believe you have to always go out and buy something new for every new event. It’s always good to start with what’s in your closet. Take things you already have and mixed them up. You can create an entirely new look. That’s exactly what I did. I combined elements of two suits to create my Style Setters 2018 look.

Plaid suit – Indochino (The blazer and vest were part of a suit) | Gray slacks – (Suit Supply – from a suit) | Polka dot tie – Ties.com | Chelsea boots- Prada |Sunglasses –  Huntsman
