Need to fight that winter chill? Odds are you still may be hunting for the perfect winter coat. And let’s face it. A good winter coat is a necessity especially if you can find one that looks great as well. If you haven’t checked out Nobis, this a premium outerwear brand you need to put on your radar.

About Nobis

While relatively newer than some of the other premium outwear brands, Nobis was started in 2007 by Robin Yates who was formerly a vice president over at Canada Goose. There he helped to spearhead the success and growth of that brand. When he left, he wanted to create a product that would differentiate from others in the market.

What came next was Nobis, from Latin the name means for us. A premium outerwear company whose logo is a shield symbolizing the protection the garments give. And protection from the elements is what they provide. Using innovative technology that used to be only specific to performance clothing, Nobis seeks to offer outerwear for the more fashion focused consumer. It’s a fashion meets functional mentality. With a modern silhouette, lightweight and trim, coats tend to be less bulky than some of their competitors. However, despite this focus on style, there is no sacrifice in protecting wearers from the harshest of cold weather elements.

My Introduction

I was first introduced to Nobis during New York Fashion Week last year. Nobis was showcased during New York Men’s Day, an event established by Agentry PR to showcase men’s designers during a sea of women’s shows.

What initially captured my attention was how stylish the coats were. Bold colors and sleek designs seem to make them stand out and subtly very statement worthy. At the time, I only saw them on display and did not know how they would stand up to the cold.

Fast forward a few months later, when I got to experience one of the coats for myself. I chose the Wayland Men’s Long Reversible Puffer, a white floral print on one side that reverses to an all-black coat on the other side. Naturally I was drawn to the floral print. The Artic ready outerwear is designed to adapt to my body in any condition down to–30°C. Full disclosure. Since the weather has been unseasonably worn, I’ve only been able to wear it one time. And to answer inquiring minds, it does an excellent job of fighting the cold.

Other Benefits

A nice feature of my coat is the fact that it’s packable. For its size, it’s lightweight and nicely compresses down to fit in a suitcase. Even better is it being machine washable and dryable. As a result, care is easy. Often with other premium brands, dry cleaning or professional wet cleaning is necessary to properly care for these clothes.

Nobis not only touts its commitment to innovation and style there are other pluses that makes this a company to check out. Sustainability is a key aspect in the company’s mission. Take a glimpse at the company’s website. From design, materials used and manufacturing, there’s a thoughtfulness in how Nobis creates its garments as well as the impact it leaves on the environment. Even when items are no longer needed. Nobis has programs designed to recycle, donate or resell these pieces. In fact, Next by Nobis, allows customers to buy and sell previous worn Nobis products. In my case, I don’t see my coat hitting the resale market anytime soon.
