NYFW SS 2027: Romeo Hunte

Romeo Hunte’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, IVY NOIR, takes the familiar language of preppy dressing and gives it a sharper, more rebellious point of view. I loved seeing how Hunte played with the codes of classic American style. Looks included striped shirting, crests, sweater vests, tailored blazers, pleated skirts and collegiate neckwear. Using these classics, he then disrupted them with oversized proportions, unexpected layering, denim, leather and flashes of skin.

There were moments that brought Polo and J.Press to mind, along with the precision of Thom Browne and even hints of Chanel’s polished black-and-white vocabulary. But nothing felt like a copy. Hunte filtered those references through his own urban lens, giving the collection an edge that felt youthful, confident and distinctly his own.

What stood out most was how wearable it all was. Even with the exaggerated styling and runway attitude, so many of these pieces could move directly from the runway into a real wardrobe. IVY NOIR proves that preppy style doesn’t have to be precious or predictable. It can be cool, sexy and a little disruptive.
