A Riviera brunch at Alhambra

If you’ve been following this blog or you know anything about Washingtonians, you know that we love a good brunch. Recently, I had the chance to check out the brunch at Alhambra, the modern Mediterranean restaurant located in the St. Regis hotel. The restaurant is a culmination of modern Mediterranean and French cuisine and was the perfect setting for the celebration of one DC’s favorite Parisian, Sylvia Colella. It was her 50th birthday and she gathered some of her favorite influencers to mark the momentous occasion with an exquisite brunch.

The Alhambra brunch is a combination of buffet and a la carte extravaganza. Diners select from a variety of entrees plus can enjoy a chilled seafood station as well as a selection of local fresh farm products. And for those who like a brunch cocktail, Alhambra has a Bloody Mary bar and champagne bar to build your own mimosas.

Naturally I went for the mimosa bar and for the entrée, I opted for the chicken and waffle. Both selections were top notch. The waffles were delicious; the chicken was super tender and who can so no to making your own mimosa? My drinks were perfect!

In such a beautiful setting with some of the city’s best-dressed people, my hardest decision was finding something to wear. What does one wear to brunch when the competition is fierce? When planning an outfit or look, take your cue from the type of restaurant and from the occasion. Since it was a special birthday celebration and at an upscale restaurant, I decided to go with a suited look. However since it was a weekend brunch I wanted to be a bit more casual. I swapped out my usual dress shirt and tie for a fitted tee. For shoes, I chose tassel loafers to complete my look. What’s your secret for dressing for a special occasion? I’d love to hear what you do.
